Further price increases in the global semiconductor chip market are inevitable. A few days ago, after TSMC announced that its foundry business had increased prices by as much as 20%, Samsung has now officially followed suit and prices will rise by as much as 20%.
According to reports, Samsung has notified customers that it will increase foundry prices in the second half of this year. People familiar with the matter said that Samsung plans to increase foundry prices by 15%-20%.
It is said that this move has been approved by some customers and new contracts have been signed.
The specific price increase depends on the customer's order volume, chip type and contract period. The new price will come into effect in 4 to 5 months.
At present, the main products of foundry include NVIDIA's RTX 30 series graphics chips, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888/888 Plus chips, etc. After the foundry price increase, the cost of RTX 30 series chips will also increase, which will affect the final price.
In the latest ranking of the global foundry market in Q2, TSMC is the only one with Q2 output value of USD 13.3 billion, an increase of 3.1% from the previous quarter, ranking first in the world.
Samsung ranked second with a revenue of 4.33 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 5.5% month-on-month, and a market share of 17.3%, down 0.1 percentage point.
